TIMEnet Multimedia

STORAGE - TIMEServer

TIMEnet is composed of two components:

Storage Library

This is the device where the multimedia video and program files are stored. It is the server. One or many of these devices are located on a TIMEnet digital distribution system.

Viewing Device

This device displays the multimedia. Multimedia can be a video, music, photograph or a file such as a PowerPoint Presentation, PDF file or a Word document.

TIMEnet is based on a core principle of a SERVER - RETRIEVER structure. The TIMEnet server is called TIMEServer and the retriever devices are TIMETouch and TIMEBoard.

When a user requests a multimedia program, the Server searches through its stored library and retrieves the item. The server streams the multimedia information and data to the retriever or laptop.

When the TIMEnet Retriever or laptop receives the stream the resident software program converts it to an image that is displayed on a projector screen, Interactive Whiteboard or television screen.

Storage Devices

Think of the TIMEnet Storage Device as your everyday book library. As more books become available the library grows and more books appear on the shelves. When all the shelves are full you have to add more shelves to store more books.

TIMEnet Storage devices are the similar. Analogous to the shelves in the library, these devices have a finite capacity for storage and when one fills up you have to find more space. In essence, you have to install more 'shelves'.

The TIMEnet storage device(TIMEServer) can be located anywhere on the network. It can have any capacity of storage and can be several storage devices located in a number of rooms. When one device is full another can be 'plugged-in' and more media files added to the library.

A variety of storage devices may be installed that satisfy the requirements of TIMEnet. Storage devices range from small units with a capacity of 2TB to larger ones with 30TB of storage. They may be installed and configured at any time when more storage is needed.
